In the Felo-De-Se, I believe it preaches the idea that extreme power kills the soul, that it can get to our heads as humans and that it can lead to your death.
The idea that it plays with your mind, tussles with your soul is shown in the scene where the chess pieces are covering the head of the mob boss. The colour of red is used in order to foreshadow blood, and show anger. In the beginning the audience are shown someone who seems to be the boss alone and snorting cocaine. After the phone call his nervousness is clearly shown so that the audience can see who has the real power in the film. The way the mob boss does not turn to acknowledge his inferior shows his power, and how it has corrupted him. He feels isolated and alone, and hence kills himself as he has no one to talk to, the idea of power corrupting and loneliness are done really well in this film.
